When Super-Spouse and I walked through the international adoption process in 2013, we were blessed enough to do it while holding the hands of (read: clinging for dear life to) families who had been in our shoes before.
These families laughed with us. These families cried with us. These families celebrated with us and these families translated acronyms for us.
And these families shared honestly with us — the good, the bad and the crazy — so that we could prepare for this journey, calling and child that God had placed in our hearts.
We vowed that, if the Chinese government actually ever transferred a child to our care, we would do the same for future adoptive families ... and those who didn’t yet know that they had a superhero in store.
We’d be an open book. A ready resource. A place to promote COURAGE when the whole world is pretty big on COMFORT. People who stood up for superheroes-in-waiting in the middle of a culture so focused on SELF.
This month, that’s exactly what we’d like to do.
November is National Adoption Awareness Month. And for the next 30 days, we’d love nothing more than to spread awareness.
About the BEAUTY of adoption.
About the BLESSING of adoption.
About the millions of superheroes worldwide who still wait for parents who can help them FOSTER their SUPER.
Our biggest concerns walking into adoption were the tedious process and the enormous cost. With the help of outside resources, guest bloggers and Facebook forums, we’ll tackle both of those topics this month, as well as topics like:
· How do you make the decision to adopt?
· How and where do you start the process?
· How long does it take?
· Why consider special needs adoption?
· How can I fund a $30,000 - $40,000 adoption without debt?
· What are realistic expectations for adoptive parents?
· Why does adoption matter?
And so much more.
Because social media is one of the very best places to inform potential adoptive families and advocate for these precious superheroes-in-waiting, we’ll be hosting this series primarily on the blog Facebook page with at least one new weekly article on the blog itself.
To ensure that YOU don’t miss adoption information, links, resources or encouraging videos and quotes, follow us now at www.facebook.com/ofcapesandcombatboots. We’ll be posting every weekday through November 30.
God can change the orphan story.
With some information and encouragement, we can muster up the courage to play our small part ... and discover the secret that it is the FAMILIES, not the children, who receive the BIGGEST blessings.
